Temporal arteritis is best treated initially with:
- Cyclophosphamide
- Prednisone, 20 mg/day
- Prednisone, 80 mg/day
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents
- Carbamazepine
The best initial treatment for biopsy-proven temporal arteritis is high-dose prednisone. Failure to treat can result in blindness secondary to occlusion of the retinal arteries.
